Face Attendance Kiosk: Turn an Ordinary Tablet Into a Gate Check-In Station

Install the e-pondok kiosk app on a tablet or PC at the gate for face check-in of students and staff, with offline mode and automatic updates.

Attendance terminals, whether fingerprint or face recognition, are usually sold as dedicated hardware: a box with a camera, a small screen, and a price to match. Yet most pesantren only need a “door” at the gate or near the mosque where students check in. e-pondok takes a different route: a kiosk app that runs on an ordinary tablet or computer.

How it works

The e-pondok kiosk is a desktop program installed on a device whose camera faces the walkway. When a student pauses in front of the camera, the app recognizes the face and records attendance in the pondok’s database, exactly like attendance from the mobile app. The difference: nobody has to pull out a phone or open anything.

Two working modes:

  • Gate kiosk: the device sits at the guard post, one station handling hundreds of students passing in the morning.
  • Staff room kiosk: teachers and staff check in at the same spot, so the staff attendance report fills itself without a signature book.

Why an ordinary tablet is enough

Modern tablet and laptop cameras handle close-range face recognition well. The heavy part is the recognition model itself: the kiosk downloads it to the device once, and recognition then runs on the device without uploading a photo anywhere on every scan.

The hardware cost stays far below a dedicated presence terminal. A device the pondok already owns, say the presentation tablet, can take a turn or be mounted permanently at the gate.

It keeps working when the internet drops

Pesantren connections are not always stable. The kiosk stores scan results while the network is down and sends them once the connection returns, so no attendance is lost along the way. Updates are automatic too: the kiosk checks for the newest version itself, so staff never reinstall the app for every fix.

Managed from one place

Every installed kiosk appears in the Devices menu of the admin app: which devices are active, which version they run, and when they last connected. If the gate kiosk goes down, staff see it in the app instead of discovering an empty attendance sheet at the evening recap.

Adding another attendance point is just as simple: install the app on one more device and register it as a kiosk. No proprietary hardware to buy from a specific vendor.

Summary

A kiosk turns an ordinary tablet or computer into a complete face check-in point: it recognizes students and staff, survives connection drops, updates itself, and can be watched from the admin app. The hardware cost sits well under dedicated attendance machines.
